Last year, The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams hinted that he had an idea for the next Star Trek movie that would team Captain James T. Kirk with his father, Captain George Kirk.
Today, we've learned that Abrams' premise is becoming a reality as Thor star Chris Hemsworth has officially signed on for the fourth movie in the Trek franchise!
Hemsworth played George Kirk in 2009's Star Trek, where his character sacrificed himself to ensure the well being of the crew aboard his ship during a run in with an enemy Romulin vessel.
Although little is known about the plot of the fourth film, it's probably a safe bet that the Kirk's will join forces in a timeline-altering way.
Simon Pegg has already started work on the screenplay with his Star Trek Beyond writing partner Doug Jong, but no release date has been set.
