Last year's Superbowl drew in an audience of 111.9 Million viewers that tuned in to watch the New England Patriots beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28. I, however, tuned in for the sole purpose of catching the big movie trailers for the upcoming season... which is literally the same reason I tuned in this past Sunday.
Here are my thoughts on this years Super Bowl spots and trailers:
Mission: Impossible- Fallout
It's very hard not to get sucked back into the world of Ethan Hunt and his antics with the Impossible Mission Force (It's silly... I know). Fallout is the franchises 5th installment, and I must say it's nice to continue to see familiar faces return for all the sequels! Henry Canvill (Justice League) makes a great addition to the cast, and looks to be a formidable adversary to Cruise's Hunt. Now, there's no denying the fact that these movies do reuse the same over-the-top, spy thriller plot formula in each of their sequels. Despite this fact though, the formula continues to bring in large box office numbers, so we're in for a few more years of impossible missions!
Solo: A Star Wars Story
It was so nice to finally see SOMETHING from the upcoming Star Wars Story! I must admit, it had me worried for a second there! The teaser and subsequent trailer that aired on Monday have me pretty excited for this movie now. The visuals alone are incredible and seem to carry on the "new age" style of The Force Awakens and Rogue One. Donald Glover seems at home in his role as Lando, and Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson will make great additions to the Star Wars universe. Now we'll just have to see how Alden Ehrenreich fills the giant shoes left by Harrison Ford as the titular character...
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Is it just me... or are they marketing this sequel as a horror movie? Don't get me wrong, I feel that a Jurassic Park-themed horror movie would be a FANTASTIC idea... but tonally, that would be such a harsh deviation from what was established in 2105's Jurassic World. One things for sure, this movie is taking us to the mainland and dealing up some good old Dinosaur-fueled chaos. The films Dino-Baddy looks to be the Indoraptor, which seems to be a genetically engineered Raptor-sized Indominous Rex. Personally, after watching this trailer, this franchise is starting to worry me. I love the original two JP's A LOT and I would really hate for Universal to give this franchise their "Fast and Furious" treatment, producing sequel after sequel with no respect for the original source material.
Avengers: Infinity War
The idea of seeing several super heroes teaming up on the big screen in one movie has had me excited since the first Avengers! So, needless to say, the more footage of Infinity War I see, the bigger my excitement level grows! I loved Tony Stark's new Nano suit, I loved Captain America's Wakandan shield, and it was cool getting to see more of Tom Holland's Spider-Man! I do have a theory that this movie will mark the death of Vision, but I hope I'm wrong because I really love Paul Bettany's portrayal of him! But I'll have to wait until May to find out!
There's no denying it... I love The Rock and I love his movies, no matter how bad they are! San Andreas? TERRIBLE movie... still enjoyed it. Fast & Furious 6? HORRIBLE movie... made better only by The Rock. GI Joe: Retalliation? Well... I'm sure you get the point. Skyscraper looks to be a cross between Die Hard and The Towering Inferno, and I already love it! Is the plot going to be a little ridiculous? Probably. Will there be several moments of impossible physics? It's almost a guarantee. But because it's a Dwayne Johnson movie... it's also going to be entertaining as fuck, so count me in!
Red Sparrow is almost literally the "Black Widow Origin Movie" all Marvel fans have been asking for... except that Sparrow will probably include far more nudity and violence than you'd ever see in any Disney/Marvel film. This movie has my attention for sure, and I hope it can take a place among the ranks of recent action hits like John Wick and Atomic Blonde.
A Quiet Place
This was perhaps the most disappointing Super Bowl spot for me because of the revelation that this movie will be a post-apocalyptic invasion movie and NOT a horror movie. It appears as though in the film, the planet has been taken over by creatures nicknamed "Death Angels" who are blind, but have a powerful sense of hearing which they use to hunt their prey... aka Humans. I was kind of hoping this would be a minimalist-style horror movie set in a barn and not a movie following a often rehashed plot element. But nonetheless, I am excited to see what John Krasinski can offer us both as director and as a lead alongside his "real life" wife, Emily Blunt.

A few months ago, Justyn introduced us to Atomic Blonde, starring Charlize Theron as an MI6 agent who'd give John Wick a run for his money.
Our interest was immediately sparked, but now that Universal has released a clip of one of the films action sequences, we are SOLD!
Check it out and let us know your thoughts!

It's crazy to think that 40 years ago today, George Lucas released "Star Wars" to audiences not expecting much at all. There were no solidified plans for sequels, no ideas for Theme Park lands, no talk of spin offs or expanded universes. There was only Lucas' space adventure and the hope that the film wouldn't tank, especially after its troubled production.
Now, 40 years later, Star Wars is a billion dollar franchise with legions of fans (like us 😝) and stories on various platforms that continue to expand the Universe.
Today, we want to celebrate the movie that started it all with a gallery of Behind the Scenes images from the 1977 production, featuring the amazing cast and crew that made it all happen!
